Discover Allgäu, the germans pre-Alps

Little known in France, Allgäu is a treasure of nature and adventure that is worth exploring

This part of Germany between Schwaben and Bavaria is famous for hiking, wellness centres and bike rides – and it lives up to its reputation. Just one day is enough to seduce nature lovers: well-marked and easily accessible paths, hills, plains, lakes and rivers await hikers. The gradients are not vertiginous and the paths are not too steep, the walk is accessible to all.

In winter, in the Allgäu you can ski and do other winter sports because, let’s face it, the highest peak is at 2657 m!

This region is less dreamy than its neighbour, the very popular Tyrol (whose highest peak is 3783 m) with its 151 km of ski slopes. Yet it is still worth a visit. The ski resorts in this region, although popular with the Germans, have retained a family atmosphere and are still preserved from the tourist hustle and bustle.

The typical Allgäu gastronomy is influenced by the Bavarian and Schwaben (Swabian in English) cuisine. Beer, mulled wine, opulent “Torte”, always finely decorated cakes of at least 10cm high, Schupfnudeln, Weisswurst (german sausages) and Knödel are on the menu. An ideal menu after a day spent wandering on the trails and finally, you’ll be sleeping in a wooden chalet under a feather duvet!

When traveling, you have to discover the culture and the food, it's now or never!
