Jaiselmer, golden city of the Indian desert

There are places that are self-sufficient. To enter Jaiselmer is to go back in time, to marvel at each door, each archway, each column

When I went there, this fabulous city had already adapted well to the tourist demand and there were gadget shops in the streets that holidaymakers like to take home.
Around the fortifications, there were plenty of vendors selling treks, tours and excursions, but the city itself was still very “authentic”.
The Indians went about their business, went to the temple, drank their tea and read their newspapers… the city was alive. So don’t stop at mercantile meetings and go on your way. You have to get lost in this fortified city, have time to spare and walk, walk, walk…

The architecture is Jaiselmer’s greatest asset, everything is carved in golden stone which gives it an incredible aura under the sun

The stone lace is present everywhere, the Jain temples with their roofs decorated with banners stand out against the desert landscape, it is a magnificent spectacle. The Indians I met there were kind, open, curious.
They were always ready to take me on a roof terrace to admire the city, without taking 50 rupees from me, just like that.
I hope that this jewel of architecture will be able to resist the sirens of mass tourism for a long time to come and that, like me, you will find all the beauty of the world there.

What beautiful surprises await you?
